From Fr. Jerry Priscaro, Kanty Prep '79 graduate on the feast day of St. John of Kanty ...
Happy Feast of St. John of Kanty, Priest & Educator on this Monday, December 23rd, 2024. St. John of Kanty taught at the University of Cracow, Poland. He was a very gifted teacher loved by many of the students he taught. There are many successful men and alumni who were educated at St. John Kanty Prep High School in Erie, PA. It was a glorious place on East 38th St. near Shannon Roads. Without a doubt, the admirable education and formation of young men occurred under the watchful guidance of the Vincentian Order Priests who came to Erie from the New England Province to operate the educational institution and shape students for a successful future. Those of us who had the privilege of attending can give testimony to the challenging and, at the same time, excellent education, sports programs, clubs, priests, lay faculty, and coaches. The spirit of St. John Kanty lives on in the lives of many men and all those parents and siblings who witnessed firsthand the glory days there. St. John Kanty........Pray for Us! Go E-A-G-L-E-S! Still flying high after all these years. Be sure to listen to the rock song "Where Eagles Fly" by Sammy Hagar to experience that Kanty School Spirit.
God Bless Father Mitch Wanat, Fr. Tony Kuzia, Fr. Ron Wiktor, Fr. Chet Mwroka, Fr. John Sledziona, Fr. Ed Gutowski, Fr. Ralph Mineo, & Brother Joseph Zurowski, & Coach Mina George, Mrs. Wick, Fraulein Osiecki, Mr. Stepnoski, Mr. Sidelinger, Mr. Yori, Mr. Aversa, Mr. Stoczynski, Mr. Kunicki, Mr. Czytuck, & plenty of other memorable faculty members who walked the hallowed halls & athletic venues with us and helped make men out of boys during our high school experience. We will never forget you!

Fr. Jerry Priscaro, Class of '79, Celebrated 30th Anniversary as a Priest ...
Celebrating my 30th Anniversary as a priest today, Sunday, April 23rd, 2023. It seems so long ago. What an adventure. I've met a lot of beautiful souls along life's journey and made a lot of friends by the thousands. I could have never imagined what God had in store for me on that night at St. Peter Cathedral in Erie, PA where I was ordained by Bishop Donald W. Trautman. Jesus was given 3 years of public ministry. To think God has blessed me Tenfold with 30 years of public ministry as a priest is breathtaking, awesome, and quite humbling to say the least. Our Lord & Savior promised to bless us and reward us in marvelous ways not only in this life but in the next life, as well. Thanks so much to all who have been an important part of my life and ministry as a Roman Catholic Priest and as friends. Without your love and support, I could never have experienced the Grace, the Power, and the Glory of God and God's People. To God be all the glory, forever & ever, Amen! Alleluia!

Dear brother Kantyite:
September 29,. 2015
Benedicamus Domino…
Ever since my spouse Diane passed on to the Lord January 20th I have been mulling over whether to attend our Kanty reunion. I dreaded the fact I would have to drive to the Poconos and occupy a suite alone for the first time in my life. Through the spring and summer I finally chose to invite my children and their spouses to accompany me. Woodloch would provide a perfect second honey moon atmosphere for their enjoyment. I wondered how the kids would consider the Woodloch complex; knowing their varied travel experiences. The moment my son Christopher stepped on the campus he planned to come back with his family next year. My daughter Lisa was envisioning a destination wedding for her Stephanie, while her husband Bob considered dates for next year for the family. As my children met the Kanty alumni and their wives the magic of the Kanty brotherhood gently evolved into family. The intimate conversations and sharing flowed as if we’ve been with each other throughout the year.
This reunion recorded 21 alumni in attendance with spouses and companions totaling 41 as a group;
Class of ’53…2 Bill Humienny, Arthur Oleszkowski;
Class of ’57…6 Alex Cimochowski, Joe Lepkowski, Phil Spletzer, Carl Urban, Ray Wisnieski, Mike Zimmer;
Class of ’58…2 Ronald Buchner, Daniel Karlinski;
Class of ’59…2 Conrad Czaplicki, Walter Prusak;
Class of ’60…6 Joe Adkins, Gene Chlosta, Tom Jasovosky, Mike Lombardo, John Ward, Eugene Zorn;
Class of ’61…3 Albert Janicki, Thomas Prykuta, Fred Rabut;
Once again, thanks to Phil Spletzer’s diligence and expertise, we were assigned a pristine lake view suite with double bed room, parlor, kitchen and full deck over the lake;
A quick settling in with all the provided amenities for our convenience; we hop on to a circulating mini-bus to the main lodge and dinner. The first person I meet is Alumni President Archie’s spouse June…a big hug of welcome as an appetizer and then “Cherry” Wisnieski …another hug and hand shake…and so it went throughout the evening…the mystical transformation of men & women into the Kanty Family.
After each splendid and quality meal, we enjoyed libations at the 3 bedroom 2 bath lake-view hospitality house provided exclusively for our group.
Turning on the fireplace added to the warmth and convivial atmosphere to share stories and reminisce; the nascent mutual admiration society commences.
Evening walks throughout the campus proved a pleasant experience with an occasional encounter with grazing deer. I tended to become more vigilant when I saw the sign to not disturb or feed them or any bear trundling through. When walking the hillside walks proved too strenuous there were the continuous mini-buses for our convenience. My family preferred to spend several evenings around a fire pit by the lake, worry free, relaxing in each others company.
The daily offering of numerous games, art & craft activities, stage performances and sporting opportunities invited us to enjoy a variety of entertainment not normally found in our every day life. For our entire 4 ½ day stay no one heard anything but positive attitude from the pleasant and accommodating staff. As they state: Woodloch is a “cruise on land”. There was no reasonable demand the staff could not take care of for us.
Thursday afternoon the Kanty alumni, led by President Archie Oleszkowski held a business meeting. Archie opened with a prayer and discussion ensued regarding future location and year options for the next reunion. Considering cost, availability, convenience, accessibility and attendance; Woodloch Pines was unanimously voted for the 2016 Kanty reunion. All alumni are invited to perform a cost/benefit analysis in researching any potential sites for any suggested future Kanty Alumni reunions.
The treasury reportedly contains a healthy reserve vitiating any need for alumni dues once again this year. As there are no Congregation of the Mission priests remaining who were connected to St John Kanty Prep we anticipate donating significant funds to worthy service agencies at next years reunion.
Archie requested Mike Zimmer to conclude the meeting with a prayer reflecting the love of our brotherhood.
The entire 5 day event went bye too swiftly, yet afforded the participant’s time to share life experiences with those dear hearts we came to love and enjoy. The renewed bonding and comfort proved the inevitable parting to be difficult. Even though there are many vital and relatively healthy Kanty men I’m still reminded we are in the last 10 minutes of the 4th quarter, make every play count. It is indeed a blessing to look into the face of a brother Kantyite and his companion, acknowledging their uniqueness and special place we have for each other in our heart. I pray we have that opportunity to do it once again next year.

Shalom, Mike Zimmer ‘57
